500 – Moving Right Along?

500 – Moving Right Along?

I’ve also been working on updating the cast book for you guys, which was what I wanted to do for Strip 500. However, it’s taking a lot longer than I anticipated to put the whole book together. (Apparently if your archive quintuples in size between iterations of a project, it takes a lot longer to fact check. Whoodathunk?) That will be done eventually.

Anyway! I’ve had this other comic idea bouncing around in my head, and I really wanna take a crack at it. However… I have a lot of non-comic responsibilities and my schedule is pretty tight right now, so if I were to take on another project, Enjuhneer is probably the thing that would suffer for it. This kills me a lot, and I’ve been struggling with this decision for months. Enjuhneer is by no means complete in my mind, and there are many other stories I want to tell. However, I have stories I want to tell that would be inappropriate for Enjuhneer. I have a name for the strip, and a rough cast, and several stories already. I just need the time.

I want to know what you guys think about this. Would you be interested in reading something else by me? Bear in mind it wouldn’t be nearly as happy-go-lucky as Enjuhneer. It would deal with more complex, adult situations and would probably be kinda dark at times. Please, share your thoughts!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d read whatever else you put out. Then again, most of what I read is more like what you are describing. Enjuhneer just more than makes up for not being what I usually read because of your quality writing. I’d definitely be excited to see what happens when your talent is turned loose on a different genre.

  2. Lenny says:

I would read anything that you put up. It would be sad that Enjuhneer would be stopping for now but hopefully the new one will be just as good if not better.

  3. Sejanoz says:

I would be very interested in this new comic of yours, Jenny.

  4. The Cat says:

There is NOTHING you could write strips about that would make me not read it. Do what you like, and we will follow :3

  5. marshal says:

a new comic? heh go ahead id read it just put up a link or somefink once its up

  6. Stardrake says:

It’s cliche, but do what YOU want to do. Creative efforts tend to suffer when they’re being done when the creator really wants to be doing something else, and I’d rather see both of your comics at their full potential – at whatever rate of updates you feel is best for each – then for Enjuhneer to lose some of its spirit because you’re forcing yourself to do it when you’d rather be working on something else. (From what you’re saying, it doesn’t sound like you’re planning on stopping Enjuhneer entirely, just that it’d be likely to slow down as you split your attention.)

    Plus, of course… New comic!

  7. 21reader says:

im down with whatever you do. been reading your comics since 2 years or so ago and aint planning on giving up. however, i dont want enjhuneer to die though :C but a new comic is cool too….kinda mixed about this.

  8. Kyle says:

Any reason you couldn’t switch out every couple months? Or even just cut down the schedule for Enjuhneer to once a week?

  9. Kyle says:

Like everyone above me, I’d be happy with whatever you want to do. I don’t think I know enough about your new comic idea to make an informed decision. I tend toward the happy-go-lucky end of the spectrum, but I’m sure whatever you come up with will be great.

That said, I’ve really enjoyed Enjuhneer. I’m currently a college student at a tech school, and I’m pretty sure I’ve met most of the characters. I’m aware I don’t exactly have a normal perspective on this (my life story makes a good premise for a sitcom), but I very much enjoy seeing the world I live in through your eyes.

And yes, I am wearing cat ears and lab goggles as I type this at 4 in the morning instead of writing up an important math paper. Why do you ask?

While I’d read just about anything you’d create, my heart will always be with Enjuhneer.

  11. I agree with Stardrake, if you want to do your new comic, then do so.
As long as this means you aren’t going to drop Enjuhneer permanently, I think everyone who read this comic will be okay with it. It’s always interesting to see what a creator will do when they start a new work.

Give us a link when you get the new comic started. Based on the comments already written, I won’t be the only one checking it out.

  12. Lem_Gambino says:

A new comic, huh? I’m all for that. Maybe you could alternate between updating Enjuhneer and your new comic or something, just so it can stay relevant. But if you’re going to put it on hiatus for a bit, that’s fine too. I’d love to see what you can make.

Also, good luck with your cast book! 😉

  13. AKS says:

I will miss this comic dearly, as it is one of my favorites. Still, as a writer, I can appreciate you’d want to do something different. Follow your heart, do what you enjoy. When being creative, it’s always important to do what you feel is best.

  14. V. Galbreski says:

Go ahead and do. Just make sure you post a link here or something, so we can all get to it.

Although I’m curious if there would be any chance of a crossover between the two comics once you start the second one up.

  15. Baughbe says:

    “noodle, don’t noodle”
Whichever you decide, I am confident it will be well done. You have the mad skillz. (did I actually just say that?)

  16. L says:

You have to follow your muse.

People who read here are likely to read your work elsewhere, perhaps add in a strategically placed link on the home page if Enjuhneer “Goes on Co-op” or “Studies overseas” or “Takes a leave of absence”.

  17. LuLong says:

This comic has been dragging a little. I think it’s time for a fresh start!

  18. Renold says:

You could possibly do both? If you’re more passionate about this new idea, you could make it a twice-a-week thing and cut Enjuhneer down to once a week. Depending on what your new idea is, maybe do like Tatsuya Ishida of SinFest – keep it all on the same site, but follow completely different mini-stories based on what you feel like making at the time?

  19. Spike the Dragon Knight says:

Ready to read, looking forward to see your interpretation on some less then kid friendly college dealings.
    Good Luck!

  20. AflacMan13 says:

If you do I would recommend doing as a side “bonus” comic. Just draw it up, and update it in spare time, that way there is no real pressure to complete it or even update it. Look at Yosh!, JayNaylor.com, and Rascals.

  21. reynard61 says:

Do what some TV networks do: Put “Enjuhneer” on hiatus for the Summer and put the new comic in it’s place until Fall — or whenever. I’ll read whatever you put up in any case.

  22. Oarboar says:

I’ve really quite come to like Enjuhneere, which is why I’m sure you’ll do great on another project and why I’ll read it as well.

  23. Leapoard says:

I must say that losing enjuhneer would be a downer, but if you got a story that will be even more complex…Im all for it.

  24. Varkarrus says:

Whatever it is, it should have an ongoing storyline!

Though maybe you should “finish” Enjuhneer first. You know, Kali’s backstory, WiredWolf’s character development, etc…

  25. Anonymous says:

I only just not to the end of the back log but thing it’d be good

  26. [Student name here] says:

I’ll second Reynard’s idea: You should most definitely try it if you want; the summer months would make a great test period. If you decide to no go along with it, come back to Enjuhneer when classes start; if you like it, see if you can still update once every [other] week here.

  27. Radylan says:

    DOOOOOOOOOOO ITTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  28. Empiremaker says:

I enjoy this comic, why wouldn’t I enjoy other comics you wanted to make? Go for it, you never know where it will take you.
